Main Duties/Responsibilities: The Policy and Advocacy Officer reports to, and supports the Head of Policy. She/he ensures broad consultation with relevant stakeholders and gains feedback on the work of the MPP, develops partnerships with governments and other institutions to support the organisation’s licensing, represents the organisation at various meetings and identifies initiatives and/or policy processes for the MPP to engage with. Developing and maintaining relations with external stakeholders, including governments, inter-governmental organisations and civil society organisations; Establishing strategic/technical collaborations with key institutions, particularly in the fields of tuberculosis and/or hepatitis C Monitoring and interacting with key policy processes that are relevant to the work of the MPP and preparing submissions, statements or other needed material; Working with governments and other stakeholders to support the in-licensing and out-licensing work of the MPP and the uptake of MPP licensed products on the ground; Organising consultations with civil society, community and patients groups and other interested stakeholders at international conferences or regional/national events; Preparing outreach/advocacy material and policy papers on the work of the MPP; Contributing to positioning the MPP in the broader public health field and exploring new opportunities for the MPP; Organizing public events and representing the MPP at various public events Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of Policy to implement MPP’s Policy and Advocacy work. Knowledge/Qualifications: The Policy and Advocacy Officer should have: Strong background in public health Good understanding of access to medicines issues in developing countries, particularly in relation to HIV, tuberculosis and/or hepatitis C; Good understanding of intellectual property rights and their interface with public health, innovation and access to medicines An understanding of regulatory issues would be an asset; Extensive network of relevant contacts; Experience working in developing countries, particularly in Asia, Africa or Eastern Europe would be desirable Excellent advocacy and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to speak in public Personal Qualities Organised, autonomous and able to work with short timelines; Collaborative and supportive approach to teamwork; Sensitivity to different cultures and work styles; Demonstrable personal commitment to the goals of the Medicines Patent Pool Education and special training: Advanced university degree in a relevant field Experience (length and nature): At least five years experience doing advocacy/policy work in the public health field, preferably in areas linked to the mandate of the Medicines Patent Pool (HIV, TB, Hepatitis C) Use of Languages: Fluency in English is required.
