Introduction

Operational Radiation Protection Technician in the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection (HSE) Unit, Radiation Protection Group (RP).

You will join the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection (HSE) Unit, which acts, on behalf of the Director General, in matters of safety and the protection of personnel and environment. The Radiation Protection Group protects workers and public against the risks of exposure to ionising radiation, ensuring that exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable. The duties of CERN's Radiation Protection Group include the assessment of radiation hazards of CERN's activities, including new accelerators and experiments, the definition of protective measures as well as the legally required monitoring of the exposure of radiation workers to ionising radiation.

Functions

As an Operational Radiation Protection Technician you will:

.Assess radiological risks at work places in accelerator tunnels, experimental areas, laboratories and workshops of CERN.

.Perform radiation measurements in various static and dynamic high energy multi-particle type radiation fields.

.Perform work and dose planning, elaborate safety measures and working procedures.

.Evaluate, analyse and follow up operational dosimetry data.

.Prepare and supervise radiation protection aspects of dismantling projects.

.Prepare written reports on a regular basis.

Qualification required

Higher technical diploma in the field of Radiation Protection, or equivalent*.

*Please note that preference will be given to candidates with the above-mentioned qualifications: In principle consideration will not be given to applications from people with higher qualifications.

Experience and competencies

The experience required for this position is:

.Demonstrated experience in operational radiation protection, radiation protection instrumentation and legislation.

.Proven skills in documenting radiological risk assessments and measurements.

.Experience with radiation-generating instruments, e.g., X-ray generators.

The technical competencies required for this post are:

.Knowledge of radiation exposure and protection.

.Knowledge of measurement techniques for ionising radiation.

.Knowledge of health and safety legal issues.

The behavioural competencies required for this post are:
