Introduction Mechanical Technician in the Experimental Physics Department (EP), CMS Experiment Group (CMX). You will join: The Experimental Physics (EP) Department which encompasses the experimental particle physics activities in the Organization. The CMS Experiment (CMX) Group which is responsible for the construction, upgrade, maintenance and operation of the CMS detector. In alignment with the lifecycle of the LHC, this role requires flexibility to adjust to two different phases, each one lasting 2-3 years: Operation phase: while LHC is running, this phase is mainly focused on office work and requires the development of 3D models and preparation of production drawings. Maintenance phase: during the LHC long shut down, most of the activity related to this role is dedicated to the opening of CMS. Functions As a Mechanical Technician, you will: Participate actively in the opening and closing of the detector with hydraulic jacks and high pressure air-pads. Contribute to the design of new equipment and detector parts, or to the improvement of existing ones. Test and implement new tools and make sure they work well and safely. Actively take part in assembling /dismantling work on the detector. Take responsibility for the maintenance of different tools and machines. Prepare drawings for specifications and manufacturing folders in compliance with relevant standards. Follow-up production, acceptance, assembly and installation of components, materials and tools as well as the documentation of the processes. Qualification required Technical certificate in the field of mechanics,electro-mechanics or equivalent. Experience and competencies The experience required for this post is: A first relevant experience in one of the following fields would be an advantage: heavy industry, craning, ship yard or oil industry, big assembly manufacture. Initial experience in mechanics assemblies, hydraulics or pneumatics. Initial experience with industrial manufacturing techniques. The technical competencies required for this post are: Installation & dismantling of mechanical equipment & systems. Knowledge in hydraulics and/or heavy duty pneumatics. Knowledge of at least one CAD tool (Autocad/ Solidworks/ CATIA). The language competencies required are: Spoken and written English or French: willingness to learn the other language to be able to use it in routine situations.
